This program lends band instruments to Middle School students who would otherwise be unable to participate in the band.

The club established this program in 1997 which now has an inventory of more than 120 instruments and serves more than 15 schools in Huntsville, the City of Madison, and Madison County.

An annual essay contest gives local high school students the chance to express their opinions and demonstrate their writing skills.

Club contest winners are awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards, also $250, $150 and $50 cash awards respectively. The winner's essay is forwarded to the District levels where the winner is awarded a $2500 scolarship.

The contest is open to students under age 18 as of December 31st of the 2011-2012 school year (December 31st, 2011) who have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent.

Affords students the chance to compete for college scholarships while getting valuable experience in public speaking.

Club contest winners in both the boys' and girls' contests are awarded medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, also cash awards of $250, $150 and $50 respectively. Winners advance to zone, region and district contests. District winners are awarded $2500 scholarships.

Promotes awareness of our responsibilities in crime prevention and in the support and understanding of law enforcement.

Our Club joins with other North Alabama Optimist Clubs to hold an annual banquet each May to honor outstanding law enforcement individuals in our community.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Our club in conjunction with the Huntsville Optimist Foundation, provides annual grants to organizations which are making a difference in the lives of the youth of our community.

Our goal is to financially aid those organizations which are demonstrating ability to instill optimism in the youth they serve.
